Training

Should a woman own a cow? should she drink its milk?  To the open minded reader, these are pretty obvious answers, however in some farming communities in East africa, these are quite contentious questions. What do you think?

The EADD project in Uganda is working towards mainstreaming gender involvement in dairy farming by allowing equal access to resources by men, women and youth.

Through providing training on proper animal husbandry, financial literacy and cooperative formation and governance, the project is equipping the farmer communities of central Uganda with skills that will enable them attain sustainable income levels.

The debate , though still stands. To what extent should the women be involved? Should it be limited to feeding the animals, cleaning their sheds or washing their troughs? Should the women wait for the measly stipends their husbands shall provide after a day’s milk sale or should they be empowered to add value to this milk through ghee and yorghurt making?

Its just my first attempt at blogging and I am already loving this. I can now have my name listed on the Google search engine for writing about something I am very passionate about. I find this truly awesome
